IMiX is a communications agency acting as a two-way link between organisations working on migration, integration and refugee issues in the UK and the media.
Our mission is to help to enhance coverage of these issues from the viewpoint that Britain should remain an open and welcoming country for the benefit of all who live here.
IMiX isn’t a new public voice in the migrate debate in its own right. We don’t run our own campaigns. Instead we support, coordinate and amplify the media activity of existing players in the movement.
We work with organisations across the whole of the movement – from tiny volunteer-led outfits, to established domestic organisations, to globally recognised international NGOs.
IMiX for Journalists
IMiX acts as a conduit between the media and the migration, integration and refugee movement, and a focal point for many joint sector media initiatives.
If you need to get some information on a particular element of the migration, integration and refugee debate, but you’re not sure who exactly to go to, you can come to IMiX and we’ll point you in the right direction.
If you’re looking for experts on a particular subject – say, child refugees or the economic impact of migration on different communities – but you’re not sure how to reach such a person, you can come to IMiX and we’ll be able to put you in touch (or at least suggest the closest possible alternative).
If you’re looking to interview a migrant or refugee – say, a Syrian who has arrived through resettlement or an East European working in the UK – we will do our best to either put you in touch directly or point you to an organisation that has the right contacts.
If the migrant or refugee bodies make joint interventions in the media, IMiX is likely to play the coordinating role:
Who runs IMiX?
IMiX is an agency set up by Global Dialogue on behalf of the migration, integration and refugee sectors. It is funded by grants from a number of trusts and foundations and is based at the Barrow Cadbury Trust in central London.
Tim Finch is the founding Director of IMiX. Tim spent many years as a senior journalist with the BBC, before becoming director of communications at the Refugee Council in 2004. He went on to be head of migration and director of communications at IPPR for five years. He has a close association with all of the leading migration and refugee agencies in Britain, and many abroad, and has developed an international reputation for communications expertise on migration and refugee issues.
Alex Mitchelmore is the Media Manager at IMiX. Alex worked in the press team for Britain Stronger In Europe as the Senior Broadcast Officer. Before that he was part of the UK corporate communications and public affairs team at Portland.
Additional support for IMiX is provided by a network of six communications officers working for organisations in the field who will work on specific campaigns and projects on behalf of the migration, integration and refugee sectors.
